Zooplanktivore fish body growth responses to browning‐induced light limitation vary over ontogeny, but not with fish density

چکیده
Ongoing climate change is leading to browning of many lakes and coastal areas, which can impair fish body growth biomass production. However, whether how effects light limitation caused by on vary over early ontogeny unknown. In this study, we set up a mesocosm experiment test roach (Rutilus rutilus) responses depend size, if findings are robust densities. We also studied potential mechanism for size-specific conducting an aquaria prey selectivity in changes with browning. found that browning-induced (independent density), negatively affecting young-of-the-year (YOY) but not 1-year-old individuals. show difference response likely consequence alterations zooplankton community composition variation between YOY fish. This suggests should account the diverse ontogeny, mediated via altered ontogenetic preference, when assessing overall impacts aquatic ecosystems.

Red Light Stimulates Feeding Motivation in Fish but Does Not Improve Growth
Nile tilapia fish were individually reared under similar light levels for 8 weeks under five colored light spectra (maximum wavelength absorbance): white (full light spectrum), blue (∼452 nm), green (∼516 nm), yellow (∼520 nm) or red (∼628 nm). The effects of light on feeding, latency to begin feeding, growth and feed conversion were measured during the last 4 weeks of the study (i.e., after ac...
متن کاملDo fish growth rates correlate with PCB body burdens?
We evaluated whether growth rates of six fish species correlated with PCB concentrations in a moderately-to-heavily polluted freshwater ecosystem. Using a large dataset (n = 984 individuals), and after accounting for growth effects related to fish age, habitat, sex, and lipids, growth correlated significantly, but positively with lipid-corrected PCB concentrations for 4 of 6 species. Remaining ...
متن کاملSynchrony and heterochrony in ontogeny (of fish).
The ontogeny of an organism is a complex process that strongly depends on the timing of developmental processes. In this article, I discuss ontogeny of fish (and other organisms) in temporal terms, based on the hypothesis that organisms as self-organized entities may create their own times for their development, and that this development consists of a sequence of longer stabilized states (steps...
متن کاملOntogeny of Numerical Abilities in Fish
BACKGROUND It has been hypothesised that human adults, infants, and non-human primates share two non-verbal systems for enumerating objects, one for representing precisely small quantities (up to 3-4 items) and one for representing approximately larger quantities. Recent studies exploiting fish's spontaneous tendency to join the larger group showed that their ability in numerical discrimination...
